Seth Godin is the author of nine international bestsellers, most recently the New York Times bestseller The Dip. His other books include Permission Marketing, Unleashing the Ideavirus, Purple Cow, Free Prize Inside!, All Marketers Are Liars, and Small Is the New Big. He is also the founder and CEO of Squidoo and the most popular marketing bloggers in the world.

Le livre : Tribes: We Need You To Lead Us
Piatkus Books, novembre 2008
160 pages
Présentation de l’éditeur :
Without leaders, there are no followers.
You’re a leader.
We need you.
In this fascinating book, Seth Godin argues that today everyone has an opportunity to start a movement – to bring together a tribe of like-minded people and do amazing things. And yet too many people ignore the opportunity to lead because they are « sheepwalking » their way through their lives and work, too afraid to question whether their compliance is doing them – or their company – any good.
Tribes is for those who don’t want to be sheep and instead have a desire to do fresh and exciting work. If you have a passion for what you want to do and the drive to make it happen, there is a tribe of fellow employees, or customers, or investors, or readers, just waiting for you to connect them with each other and lead them where they want to go.

Wow, I must say that I do not share this self-aggrandizing, yet candid and reducing comment you start your blog post with, about Godin’s Tribes.
I’m not sure that every true leader will be bored by tribes, the book is full of insight and it’s certainly not meant to be appealing to those who have a sheep attitude solely! In fact, I even doubt that non-leaders would be moved or interested by this book! It can be enlightening to those who have already a leader within, whether they started and led something or not, because even if they did, there still are many causes to be led and many scattered tribes to be brought together!
Also, this book is enjoyable for the valuable epistemological and social persepective on leadership, not to mention its high relevance in these times of social media boom.
Juste un petit mot pour vous signaler que ce livre a été traduit par Marylène Delburg-Delphis et publié en français tout récemment sous le titre suivant : Tribus – Nous avons besoin de vous pour nous mener.

@ Houeida : Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting my post, I think this is the first time (for the comment) and I’m glad of it :-)
I know a lot about this matter, and this book doesn’t learn me much more. I already knew how and when to start a leadership movement, for whom (the tribe), I knew that they’re waiting for a leader, I knew what that leader is expected to do, I knew what are the causes or interest I can lead around, and finally the role/impact social media plays in it.
All I’m saying is that this book doesn’t learn me much more than what I already knew. So it’s a personal opinion, and it can be different for other readers, even if they’re leaders of theirs tribes.
Did you read other Godin books ? Which ones ?
It seems that the more you read of it, the less you’re excited about what he’s saying…
@ Dominique : Merci pour la visite et l’info ! :-)
